THE STORY IN THE LAYERS
BEHIND THE TITLE OF "Ancient Peace"
The words "Ancient Peace" is part of a quote painted all the way into the center of the labyrinth and all the way out again.
ancient adjective an·cient \ˈān(t)-shənt, ˈāŋ(k)-shənt\
peace noun \ˈpēs\
Somewhere along the process when it felt like the painting was not working, I added this quote by Miles Davis, “Do not fear mistakes, there are none.”
The next quote I painted repeatedly was “There is a silence into which the world cannot intrude. There is an ancient peace you carry in your heart and have not lost.” – A Course in Miracles
In the foreground I repeated the same quote over and over, going to the centre of the labyrinth and out again.
Labyrinth: an ancient symbol found in many traditions and religions that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle, spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. The Labyrinth represents a journey to one's center and back again out into the world.
Silence, journey, insight, wisdom, harmony.
